Quenching is to heat the steel to a temperature above the critical temperature Ac3 (hypoeutectoid steel) or Ac1 (hypereutectoid steel), hold it for a period of time to fully or partially austenite, and then cool it at a rate greater than the critical cooling rate. The heat treatment process of rapidly cooling to below Ms (or isothermal near Ms) for martensite (or bainite) transformation. Generally speaking, it is a metal heat treatment process in which metal workpieces are heated to a suitable temperature and maintained for a period of time, and then immersed in a quenching medium to quickly cool.
Purpose of quenching:
The purpose of quenching is to transform the supercooled austenite into martensite or bainite to obtain a martensite or bainite structure, and then cooperate with tempering at different temperatures to greatly improve the strength, hardness and wear resistance of the steel. Performance, fatigue strength and toughness, etc., so as to meet the different requirements of various mechanical parts and tools. It can also meet the special physical and chemical properties such as ferromagnetism and corrosion resistance of some special steels through quenching. The quenching process is mainly used for steel parts. When the commonly used steel is heated above the critical temperature, the original structure at room temperature will be completely or mostly transformed into austenite. The steel is then rapidly cooled by immersion in water or oil, and the austenite is transformed into martensite. Compared with other structures in steel, martensite has the highest hardness. The purpose of steel quenching is to make all or most of its structure into martensite, obtain high hardness, and then temper at an appropriate temperature, so that the workpiece has the expected properties.
Third, the use of quenching furnace:
The quenching furnace series is widely used in the mechanical manufacturing industry. Mechanical parts, especially steel parts in automobiles, aircrafts, ships, etc., are almost subjected to quenching heat treatment. Quenching furnace can be used for quenching heating of automobile parts, aircraft parts, shafts, gears, sprockets, bolts and various steel parts. The quenching tank can be used for rapid quenching and cooling of heated workpieces, with stirring, water cooling cycle, etc. The system achieves high quality quenching.
Fourth, the working mode of the quenching furnace:
For complete quenching and heat treatment, the quenching furnace is generally divided into two parts. The first part is the quenching furnace for heating to the quenching process, which is generally called the quenching furnace. If the most widely used trolley type quenching furnace, the maximum working temperature is generally 1200. ℃. In addition, there are heating furnaces such as well-type quenching furnaces, box-type quenching furnaces, and vacuum quenching furnaces. The second part is a quenching tank for rapid cooling quenching. Commonly used quenching media are water, oil, brine, quenching liquid, polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution, and the like. After the workpiece is heated in the quenching furnace, the workpiece can be transferred into the quenching tank for quenching by driving. In addition, there is a continuous quenching furnace.
